EPA Methods TO-4 is designed for high volume samplers to get detection limits in the order of 0.001 ug/m3 with an air volume of 300m3.
EAS also provides medium volume cartridges for EPA methods TO-10, IP-8, ASTM D4861. These cartridges can be run with air volumes from 1 L/min to 10 L/min over a period of 8 to 24 hours. The sample pumps used for these cartridges are easier to set up and are not as noisy.
PUF Cartridge for TO-4 Pesticides
High Volume polyurethane foam (PUF) cartridges packed in glass sleeves are used for collecting pesticide samples using a high volume sampler (250 L/min) to meet EPA and ASTM method specification for ambient air sampling. The high volume samplers are specialized and require experience to calibrate. The samplers can be rented from most environmental field equipment rental firms. EAS can supply these cartridges for your samplers.
PUF/XAD Cartridge for TO-13 PAH
High Volume polyurethane foam and XAD-2 (PUF/XAD) cartridges packed in glass sleeves are used for collecting semi volatile organic compounds (SVOC) such as PAH's, phthalates, diesel range organic compounds using a high volume sampler (250 L/min) to meet EPA and ASTM method specification for ambient air sampling. The high volume samplers are specialized and require experience to calibrate. The samplers can be rented from most environmental field equipment rental firms. This cartridge can also be used for collecting pesticides at the same time as other SVOC's. The XAD is recommended in the cartridge to trap the lighter SVOC's such as naphthalene. EAS currently does not do this testing.
Low-Volume PUF Cartridge
These are designed for sampling with volumes from 1 to 10 L/min. The tubes can be purchased with a combination of packing materials and filter arrangements. The recommended sample time is 4 to 24 hours. The longer the sample is collected the lower the detection limit.

(1) These tubes are relatively cheap. About $150 for 10 or $15 each. These OVS tubes can also be used for the EPA TO-10 and IP-8 methods since they are the same as the other tubes and often have an integrated filter. Pesticides can be samples on cartridges with XAD-2 or Tenax and analyzed with other compounds such as PAH and DRO.
